BKLES BK2000 filtering water
The BKLES BK2000 provides a steady stream of purified water on our backpacking adventures.

We have been using this BKLES BK2000 rechargeable water filter for three years now and love it. It weighs only 12 ounces and does all the water filtering for us. It has supplied water for three people for six days without needing a charge. However, if we need to charge it, it charges via a USB-C port and our solar panel and battery packs are at the ready.

On our backpacking adventures, we use a plastic pre-filter shield (see image and caption below) and take some extra filters. The filter shield greatly helps keep the pre-filter that is in the water source from getting plugged. If, when filtering water, the black intake water line starts collapsing on itself and the water output is barely running, the pre-filter is plugged and needs to be replaced.

I love this usb rechargeable water pump combined with the collapsible Platypus 2-liter water bottle.

Plastic Pre-Filter Shield

Plastic shield for filter

I found a great tip to cut a piece off the side of a plastic pop bottle and place it on the bottom of the water source under the pre-filter. This super-light plastic keeps the pre-filter from sucking up debris off the bottom and plugging it up. It works amazingly well and is so simple and lightweight to carry.
